Richard Myers of GoTenna teaches his audience how to build a decentralized telecommunications network using Bitcoin. The TxTenna protocol he and his team have been developing enables people to sign transactions and send messages to anyone in the world, without using an internet connection. Using a series of mesh networks, an alternative way to relay communications, anyone can broadcast by hopscotching their messages across enabled devices until it reaches its destination.“Normal life depends on our communication infrastructure,” which is vulnerable to censorship and often out of reach for many emerging markets, Myers said. “We believe the bitcoin community can lead the way at creating these alternative communication networks for the world. And bitcoin itself and lightning can be used to incentive bottom up communication networks.”
